A couple of weeks ago I was approached by fellow artisan, Angie, who was in the process of finding artists who were willing to donate items for a Leukemia Fundraiser. Angie's close friend, Lisa Griewisch, is a 35-year-old mom of two kids and was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia on February 25, 2009.
Angie had asked me if I could donate my "I'M A DIVA" wine glass design to be sold on the fundraising online store. I was very excited about the opportunity to volunteer my time and "fizziness" to this cause, not only for Lisa, but in honor of my younger sister as well. My sister, Erin, was diagnosed with leukemia when she was just three years old. Starting my senior year of high school I watched my baby sister start her long 2 1/2 years of chemotherapy treatment.
The medical bills were so taxing on my family that my parents had to file bancruptcy a year later. Those years were difficult, but through it all it made Erin stronger. She is now a beautiful 14-year-old and fiesty as ever!
I took my "Diva" design and wanted to customize it in Lisa's honor. I made the custom character look like her and painted "I'm a strong diva" and her name in the fizzy label. I also saw this cool logo on her website with the words "Peace," "Love" and "Hope" so I created that as part of the look on the bottom of the stem. My hope was to make it something that would make her smile and keep going. The person who buys it off the website will be gifting it for Lisa to keep!
Today is Lisa's one year anniversary since being diagnosed. My heart and prayers go out to her and her family.
